Chepang is one of the indigenous ethnic groups among 103 groups of Nepal.  This community still following a nomadic life and their primary lifestyle includes hunting, foraging for wild roots and fishing and traditional farming near jungles.  They believe on spiritual world, so Chepang witchdoctor is very popular in Nepal. Their settlements, house construction, social organization, language, customs, festivals and religion are different than others communities. Chepang Hill trail adjoins Asia’s top most beautiful Chitwan National Park which has been listed in the world heritage sites. So, it is known as Chitwan Chepang Hill Trekking also. Other attractions of this trek are the Nomadic cultural experience of Chepang Community, jangle safari, rafting in Trishuli River. For Chepang Hill Trekking we need camping organization trekking but the local community provides home stay facilities. It aim to support for the marginalize Chepang communities economy.

Recently opening trekking trail “Chitwan Chepang Hill Trail”, offers a rare combination of cultural and sightseeing experience. The others interesting aspects of the trek are getting a glimpse of the Chepangs and other communities live hood. The warm invitation of the villagers to stay in their beautiful homes as guests and sharing their meals is our journey of discovery in itself. The unique culture in this area in addition to natural attractions adds to the charm of our trekking experience. The Chepang Hill Trail begins at Hugdi Khola, between Mugling and Krishna Bhir in Dhading district about 80 km from Kathmandu, and ends in Chitawan Shaktikhor. If one starting from the Chitwan National Park the trail can also be started from Shaktikhor and ending at Hugdi Khola. The trek goes through rolling hills with lush vegetation, where rice fields with small houses in the beautiful traditional orange colors meet the eye. For last two hours is the most difficult part of the trek as we follow the stream up the ravine to the pass. From here, we can see down the Chepang Gaun, valley and we follow the narrow path close to the mountain. On arrival in the village, the local are served us their traditional Dal Bhat. The trek to the top of the hill Sirai Chuli (2000m) offers us a magnificent view of the Himalayan range from east to west: Langtang, Ganesh Himal, Manaslu 8000+, and Annapurna 8000+ and Dhaulagiri 8000+.

Chitwan offers many adventure and other activities such as jungle safari, bird watching, canoe trips, etc. The Chitwan National Park is renowned for its dense tropical forest with a large number of wildlife and bird species. It is home of the about 600 species of plants, a habitat of about 43 species of large mammals, 526 species of birds, 150 species of butterflies, 126 species of fish and 49 species of reptiles, rare one-horned rhinos and other endangered species like the Royal Bengal Tiger, the Gangetic Dolphins and Ghadiyal Crocodile. This park boasts of grey monkeys and the common brownish red rhesus monkeys, deer, leopards, wild dogs, various species of mongoose and cats, wild boar, porcupines, hyena, bats, squirrels, etc. The park also boas of nearly 600 one-horned rhinos, a quarter of the species total and their numbers continue to grow. An estimated 100 tigers are in the park at present.

Day 01:Arrival at Kathmandu.

Day 02:Kathmandu Valley Sightseeing and trekking preparation (1350m)

Day 03:Drive Kathmandu (1,300m) to Hugdi (309m) -3 hours, and Trek to Hattibang (1410m) -4 to 5 hours

Day 04:Trek Hattibhang via Jautesh - Changa -Dinglang to Jyandala (1600m) -4 to 5 hours

Day 05:Trek Jyandala via Siraichuli (1945m) - Chisapanitar to Upendragadi (1275m) -6 to 7 hours

Day 06:Trek Upendragadi to Shaktikhor (355m) -4 to 5 hours

Day 07:Trek Shaktikhor to Sauraha -2 to 3hours, then explore around Chitwan National Park

Day 08:Drive back to Kathmandu early in the morning by Tourist Bus -5 to 6 hours

Day 01 : Arrival at Kathmandu.Upon arrival at international airport meet assist and transfer to the Hotel (star category, very nice and centrally located at Thamel), take rest and free at afternoon.

Day 02 : Kathmandu Valley Sightseeing and trekking preparation (1350m) Our Tour Guide led you explore around Kathmandu valley for the sight seen. Have explore historical and spiritual attractions; including the historic Kathmandu Durbar Square; the House of Living Goddess “Kumari” and Kasthamandup temple” Said that was built from single tree in 16th century, Big bell-Big drams, Erotic carving in old temple, old palace etc., Bouddhanath; one of the largest Stupas in Nepal, Swayambhunath; situated on top of the hill knows as the Monkey Temple is one of the oldest Buddhist Stupa in the world, which has been registered in UNICECO heritage side. Pasupatinath; Hindus holy place, Sadhus and pilgrims bathing at occasionally, funeral pyres burning on the Ghats, located on the holy Bagmati river. Finally we have sightseeing beautiful Patan Durbar squares; the Krisna Temple has build just by stone with incredible crafts, Patan king’s palace, Golden temple and much more. It is very famous for woodcarving, Metal works, Temples and Monasteries.

Day 03 : Drive Kathmandu (1,300m) to Hugdi (309m) -3 hours, and Trek to Hattibang (1410m) -4 to 5 hours Our trekking guide will come to the hotel in the morning at 6: 00 to pick you with private transport to leave for Chepang Heritage Trail point Hugdi Khola (80km) and will take us about 3 hours scenic journey. Along the journey you will witness some stunning scenery of snow capped Mountains, green hills, rivers in rafting, and villages. After lunch in Hugdi, we walk about five hours from Hugdi Bazaar to Hattibang, a beautiful village with magnificent mountain views. Here you stay overnight in local homes or community-managed guest houses.

Day 04 : Trek Hattibhang via Jautesh - Changa -Dinglang to Jyandala (1600m) -4 to 5 hours After breakfast with local family, the trail starts to the Jyandala penetrating other Chepang settlements such as Jautesh, Changa and Dinglang observe the complete Chepang settlements and their culture. Then we follow the trail through a vivid landscape and reach Siraichuli (2000m), one of the highest hills of the Mahabharat range), from where you can enjoy spectacular views of Himalayan peaks like Rolwaling, Gaurishankar, Langtang, Gorkha Himal, Peak 29, Himalchuli, Manaslu, the Annapurnas, Dhaulagiri and others along to the east west. Towards South, lie the green dense evergreen jungles of the Chitwan National Park.

Day 05 : Trek Jyandala via Siraichuli (1945m) - Chisapanitar to Upendragadi (1275m) -6 to 7 hours The trekking from Jyandala to Siraichuli is an outstanding experience. It is outstinding mountain ranges view during the sunrise and sunset at Siraichuli. And Moving ahead from Siraichuli to Chisapanitar is also a still splendid. Then the trail leads you through an ever changing landscape to Uppardang Gadi which used to be former headquarter of Chitwan until early 1962. The remains of a historic fort that defended the surrounding countryside are still in existence. The nature and the spectacular views make it an ideal place to stay overnight with local family.

Day 06 : Trek Upendragadi to Shaktikhor (355m) -4 to 5 hours Today, after breakfast we descend to Shaktikhor from Gadi. Shaktikor is another Chepang village and the centre of the sustainable tourism initiative of the Chepang people. There established a Chepang Museum and a visitor's information centre which both serve as tourist attractions and as educational service centers. The caves and waterfalls around the village invite you for a stroll in the area. In the evening, the local people will perform their cultural programs on request. Overnight in home-stay.

Day 07 : Trek Shaktikhor to Sauraha -2 to 3hours, then explore around Chitwan National Park The final day of trek ends at Sauraha in the early day then, we experience jungle safari at Sauraha. In the afternoon, we transfer to hotel for overnight stay. We have chance to see including royal tiger, one horn rhino, bear, dear, bore, crocodile etc. during the jungle safari. And can explore traditional ethnic group Tharu people’s culture and their live hood.

Day 08 : Drive back to Kathmandu early in the morning by Tourist Bus -5 to 6 hours We will be ready at 6:00 morning in hotel lobby with having your breakfast or advice as your trekking guide or you’re wise. We will drive back to Kathmandu through the road passing terraces, streams, rivers, local settlements, high hills and along the river side. It takes about 6 hours (conditional) to reach your hotel in Kathmandu. If you are interested to fly from Chitwan, Bharatpur to Kathmandu with extra cost of fly ticket, please request Nepal Mother House Trekking to book your flight ticket. It takes about 20 minutes with having spectacular Himalayas, high hills, terraces, local settlements, and forests ... view from the plane.

Day 09 : Your own destination. In this pleasant day you may have full day at leisure either relax at hotel or explore the around Thamel. Today is day of ending your journey, so we will hand over you Trip Certificate, Trekking Permit and TIMS Card for memory of Nepal trip. Today is free or last minute shopping for souvenirs or gift to your family, friends or relatives for you until departure flight/drive. Our assist will be transfer to the International Airport for your departure flight to your onwards destination.

Few things are worth arranging while you are at home. Please note down these list details before your departure, this tips will help to make your trip enjoyable:

  • Read travel advice, inform yourself before travelling and get advice locally when you arrive.

  • Visit the doctor for your health report and take medicine and vaccine accordingly.
  • Remember, the local laws apply to you as a visitor and it is your responsibility to follow them.
  • Be sensitive to local customs, traditions and practices as your behavior may be seen as improper, hostile or even illegal.
  • Never step over anyone feet/legs, and pull in your own legs when somebody wants to pass.
  • Never touch anybody with your feet, also never point in a direction using your feet. The feet are considered the most impure parts of the body.
  • When entering a house, somebody's kitchen, temple or monastery take off your shoes.
  • As a woman you should always be dressed avoiding provocation, so keep shoulders and legs covered.
  • It is very polite to give and accept with your right hand, and even more so when you use your left hand for supporting the elbow of your right hand.
  • When in doubt how to behave in certain situations; keep a low profile, do not shout and keep your dignity.
  • It is better not to touch offerings or persons when they are on way to shrines.
  • Beef is prohibited among both the Hindus and Buddhists. No female animal is killed for food.
  • You may not be allowed entry to the inner sanctuaries of temples and Stupas.
  • You may be interested to take snaps of temples, Stupas and monuments. Generally temples, Stupas and monuments are permitted to be photographed, but it is better to have permission before using your cameras.
