Bimthang is part of the Manaslu Trekking Route beyond the Larkya La Pass from the Gorkha side and just two days of hiking from Dharapani; the gate of the Thorong La Pass trip. Trekking in Bhimtang is called the Manaslu Short Trek or Mini Manaslu Trek. It is designed for those trekkers who like to explore wonderful Himalayan scenery, including Mt. Manaslu (8,163 m), amazing glaciers, tranquil lakes, and unique culture, in a short period of time. This is an ideal trip if you do not have enough time to participate in the whole Manaslu Circuit trip.
The main destination of the Short Manaslu Trek is Bhimtang; it is truly a piece of paradise, located east of Manang in Tilje VDC at an elevation of 3,590 meters, on the lap of the Himalayas, bowled-shaped, surrounded by mountains and many hillocks. For people who wish to escape from the crowd of trekkers and would like to hike in beautiful natural scenery in a short time, Bhimtang is a perfect choice. Bhimtang is also called Bintang or Bhimthang. It was one of the salt trading points between Nepal and Tibet a few decades ago, but now Bhimtang is well known among trekkers as the Manaslu Mini Trekking Route. For trekkers who come from the cross over the Larkya La Pass (5,160 m), Bhimtang is the best place to take a rest, observing Mother Nature before going back to the hustle and bustle of the city. Manaslu Short Trek can take a minimum of five days to more than three weeks; combine it with Annapurna Circuit Trekking classical route and side trips. But as this is a short form of Manaslu trekking, we at Nepal Mother House recommend you go for 6 days to see the main attractions around the region. The trip begins at Dharapani after driving from Kathmandu via Besisahar and turning in the right direction, following the bank of the Dudh Khola (river) with pine and oak forests through the historical and cultural rural villages of Thonje (1,965 m), Tilije (2,300 m), Goa/Gho (2,515 m), Kharche (2,700 m), Yak Kharka (3,020 m), and finally getting to the beautiful Bhimtang village. While hiking from Dharapani to Bhimtang, you will see many trekkers coming down from Larkya La Pass. The Ponkar Glacier and Kechakyu Khola Glacier are coming from the Himlung Himal, making their way in a U shape. The tranquil Ponkar Lake (3,965 m) and Nayamla Tal are amazing just beneath the gigantic Himalayas range. The majestic mountains you can see surround your right side around: Phungi Himala (6,538 m), Mt. Manaslu (8,163 m), Manaslu North (7,157 m), Larke Peak (6,249 m), Cheo (6,812 m), Himlung Himal (7,126 m), Nemjung Himal (7,140 m), Kangaru Himal (6,981 m), and many other beautiful mountains are amazing.
Bhimtang is one of the best trekking routes for travelers who have a short holiday. This trip is conducted under the Manaslu Conservation Area Project (MCAP), which is also known as the Manaslu Short Trip. It is a composition of mountain scenery, natural beauty, unique culture and vegetation, and wildlife.
