Kalapathar Trek is combination of Mt Everest Base Camp and popular view point Kalapathar. As most of the trekkers have dream to visit Mt. Everest at list once in lifetime, as result all the tea house and trekking trail have crowded during high season. But Everest Base Camp Kalapathar Trekking is give you access in the Sagarmatha national park through the alternative trail to make trip uniqueness. The destination is same as EBC Trek package but we guiding you to make different experience through the wilderness side trip and less frequented tail. Where as possible we take alternative route while coming down to Lukla rather than retrace same trail.
Kalapathar Trek trail goes through the heart of the Himalaya following river bank, Sherpa villages, amazing mountains scenery, rarely flora and fauna. Unique Sherpa culture, century old Buddhist monastery, Chorten, Manewall, hard of Yaks add charm while walk beneath the gigantic Himalaya. Often you need to cross suspension bridge above the raging river, it makes you bit fear and lot of joy. During EBC Kalapathar Trekking the trail goes inside the Sagarmatha National Park, where you might have chance sight of wild animals such as; Himalayan Goat (Thar/Jharal), Musk Dear, colorful birds “Daphe” – Nepal National Birds and many other species. Khumbu is inhabitance of Snow leopard and land of mysterious creature Yeti. Mount Everest Base Camp, most famous view point Kalapathar/ Kalapatar, Khumbu Glacier, Khumbu Icefall, Glacier Lakes, breathtaking mountains scenery including Mt. Everest Base Camp Kalapathar Trekking begin at Lukla after short scenic flight from capital city Kathmandu. Then walk through the Sherpa Villages; Chaurikharka, Ghat, Phakding, Manjo often following Dhudha Koshi River bank and pine and Rhododendron forest. It is suggested to taking rest at Namche Bazaar to acclimatize body properly before get in high elevation. On this day you may visit Sagarmathga National Park information center, Sherpa Museum, Monastery, Everest View Hotel, Syangbuche, Khumjung Village for Yeti Skull. Continue heading to Mt Everest Base Camp through the Tengboche, Pangbuche, Dingbuche village. To make your trip unique, we suggested visiting one of the best view point Nangkar Tshang Peak (5,616m), just above the Dingbuche. From where you have 360 degree view of many mountains including three world highest mountains Mt. Makalu (8,463m), Lhotse (8,749m) and Cho Oyu (8,201m) and Imja Valley view. Finally, get in Mt Everest Base Camp an elevation of 5,360 meters through Lobuche. Gorekshep is last teahouse of this trekking route. The view from Kalapathar is unbelievable, as this is one of the best view points in the Everest region, many mountains can see from here, especially Mt. Everest view from nearest distance. Except freezing cold, sunrise and sunset view is best from Kalapathar.

*Notice on Kathmandu to Lukla Flight Issue:
It is informed that the Government of Nepal has announced Lukla flight from Manthali, Ramechhap due to heavy air traffic on Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA) at Kathmandu, the flight to Lukla will conduct from Ramechhap in anticipation of further notice. Ramechhap is located 139 km East-North from Kathmandu with approximately 4 to 5 hours drive from Kathmandu.
As alternatively, if you would like to direct flight from Kathmandu to Luka, then there are Helicopter flight which can be made on 5 passenger basis with additional 500 US$ per person for one way to change your airplane flights to the helicopter. We will do our best coordinate with the airline to make groups at the airport for the helicopter flight, but we can’t give guarantee it. Fly to Lukla from Manathali airport, Ramechhap is almost always guaranteed unless sometime the flight is delayed or canceled due to not favorable weather at Lukla.
Travelers are suggested to inform us of the chosen alternatives for the flights to/from Lukla affected due to possible delays or interruptions. For more details please go through the Lukla Flight from Ramechhap.
**Note: Some time we could face problem of internal flights to/from Lukla delayed by few hours or cancelled for a day because of bad weather. It is happen very rarely, but it could even in best trekking season also as you know how climate change is effecting our globe. Therefore, we always recommend you to add one supplement night in Kathmandu after your base camp trek if possible (just for incase). If everything runs smoothly, you can enjoy other activities like sightseeing, rafting, shopping, as you wish in those additional day overnight at hotel.

Day 01 : Arrival Kathmandu and transfer to hotel.Upon arrival at international airport, our waiting support team will meet and greet you at the airport assist and transfer to the Hotel.
Day 02 : Trekking preparation and permit paper work day. Trekking preparation and permit organize day. Please, check your insurance details and have a copy of your travel medical insurance policy with you.
Day 03 : Fly from Kathmandu to Lukla (2,800m) -30 minutes, trek to Phakding (2,640m) -3 to 4 hours Early in the morning fly Kathmandu to Lukla (25 to 30 minutes) then make final preparations for the trek. From Lukla you'll pass Chaurikharka village and make a descent towards the Ghat (2,530m). The trail follows the bank of the Dudhkosi River. To assist acclimatization, this first day Treks is only 3 to 4 hrs. But if people are still interested to do more activities they will have the opportunity to go on a side trip to monastery around in Phakding. Stay overnight at Lodge.
Day 04 : Phakding to Namche Bazaar (3,430m) -5 to 6 hours The trail follows the Dodh Kosi River banks and arrives in Tok Tok. You can see excellent views of Thamserku peak from here. The trail climbs to Chomoa, the site of an agricultural project farm. Then the trail climbs to Monju (2,840m) and enters the Sagarmatha National Park Area (1,148 sq km, established in 1976). Walking some distance up you will be at Jorsale (2830m) and after crossing the last (fifth) bridge; there is another long climb from where you can have a view of Mt. Everest, over the right Nupste (7,879m). After 5 to 6 hrs walking the trail reaches the street of Namche Bazaar at last. Stay overnight in Namche Bazaar and witness the snow capped mountains and Sherpa heritage.
Day 05 : Acclimatization in Namche Bazaar and visit Khumjung Village (3,790m) After having a late breakfast, take a walk for sightseeing around Namche Bazaar then hike to the Everest View Hotel. This is the ideal place to view outstanding mountains such as Mt.Everest, Nupste, Ama Dablam, Kangtegha, Thamserku, kusum khangru, khongde and Khumbi yu La etc. While watching the spectacular view of mountains, the trail leds you in khumjung valley, where can see Hillary School, an ancient Monastery with a yeti skull, and khunde Hospital, and then return back to Namche. If you are still willing to go, you can visit the mountaineering museum and visit the Sagarmatha Pollution Control Committee (SPCC) in Namche Bazaar. Otherwise you can spend some time interacting with the fun-loving Sherpa and Rai people in here. Above the police check post you will see Sagarmatha National Park headquarters and visitor center; it is open 8 am to 4 pm except Saturdays and government holidays. Stay overnight at Lodge.
Day 06 : Namche Bazaar to Tyangboche (3,867m) -5 to 6 hours After breakfast we start our trek with a pleasant walk on a trail through the forest with magnificent views of mountains until Kenjoma, where the trail joins from Khumjung. After passing the small settlement Sanasa, the trail drops towards Phunki Thanga (3,250m). Then it climbs steeply through forests on the Tengbuche monastery, situated at 3,867m. The view from here is rightly deemed to be one of the world’s most magnificent. Kwangde, Tawachee, Everest, Nuptse, Lhotse Ama Dablam, Kantega and Thamserku provide a stimulating panorama of Himalayan view. You may stay one more night at Tyangboche day hike to Hamugon Peak (4,560m). Stay overnight at Tyangboche.
Day 07 : Tyangboche to Dingboche (4,410m) -5 to 6 hours After breakfast, the trail descends down from Tengboche, through the rhododendron forest to Deboche. Crossing a bridge over the raging Imja Khol River, the trail for Dingbuche follows the climbing route of Island peak and Phokalde peak through village of Pangboche, Somare and Orsho. Amadablam view if main feature of the day, you can see different figure for same mountains entire day hike. Finally you will get at Dingboche an elevation of 4,410 métier “world highest farmland” just bottom of the Amadablam. It is a gateway to Chukung and farther beyond for the most challenging traverses towards Makalu area and Hinko Valley via Sherpani col (6,100m) and Amphu Laptsa pass (5,780 m). Stay overnight at tea house.
Day 08 : Acclimatization day at Dingboche, visit Nagkar Tshang Peak (5,616m)/ Chhukung. On this day you may have full day’s rest but there are also some places where you can go for a day hike: up to Chhukung (4,730m) for acclimatization (point of climbing famous Island peak) or climb up to Nangkar Tshang Peak (5,616m), from where you can see best view of Imja Valley with Dingboche village. Including world highest three mountains ; Mt. Makalu (8,463m), Lhotse (8,749m), Cho Oyu (8,201m) and Island peak, Amadablam, Kangtega, Thamserku, Tabache, Cholatse etc. can be seen from Nagkartshang. Nangkartshang is less frequent climb peak at Khumbu region, it known as Nangar-JOONG by local. Return back at Dingboche for overnight.
Day 09 : Dingboche to Lobuche (4,930m) -5 to 6 hours After your complete acclimatization, the trail heading gradually climb up until Duglha, offering stunning views of Tawachee and Cholatse and many more. From Duglha trail directly up to the Khumbu Glacier before reaching the village of Lubuche. The trail is step up from Thukla for 30 to 45 munities to the ridge of Khumbu Glacier, where you can see many monuments of climber who was did during climbing. Rest of the trail goes gradually up to the Lobuche. In this stage the effects of the altitude will be kicking in and you can expect colder nights.
Day 10 : Lobuche to Gorakshep (5,140m) - 3 hours & Everest Base Camp (5,364m) -2 to 3 hours After breakfast the trek continues gently climbing and sometime directly ascent to nearby glacier. The trail going to Gorakshep is rocky and windy but it offers good views of Mt. Pumori and there are beautiful views of the Everest Base camp. After lunch, we ready ourselves for today’s adventure to the targeted destination and we continue our trek towards the Everest Base Camp and to the Khumbu Ice-fall. However, the path from here can be misleading so make sure to follow the lead Sherpa. Every year the trail changes due to the movements of the glacier. The walk is quite strenuous due to the high altitude and thin air. The walk passes over rocky dunes and moraine and streams, till you reach the base camp. If you are trekking during the high expedition season have fell like city. It takes 2-3 hrs to get to base camp and after a grand time here go back over the journey to Gorekshep for the overnight at lodge.
Day 11 : Gorakshep to Kalapathar (5,643m) -2 hours & Stroll back to Pheriche (4,240m) -5 to 6 hours Very early in morning we will have to climb up 2 hours to Kalapathar for 360 degree view of the mountain peaks. When reaching the top, you will feel joyful as you achieve the moment that you have been dreaming of since the beginning of your journey. A small rocky peak “Kalapattar” offers you beyond imagination views. The panoramic view from this spot is something to cherish and you feel it’s worth the hard climb up to here to feel at the top of the world. You can also see the Everest Base camp down below on the moraine of Khumbu glacier and many mountainous scenery such as: Pumari (7,145m), Lingtren (6,695m), Khumbutse (6,623m), Changtse (7,550m), Nupse (7879m), and even Everest itself. After breakfast in Gorakshep, we trek down to Dhugla then continue staying high above the valley floor in Imja valley. It is the only place in Khumbu where barley is grown. Enjoy the scenery and stay overnight in the hotel.
Day 12 : Pheriche to Phortse (3,810m) -5 to 6 hours Today you can fell well descend to a lower elevation from Pheriche. After breakfast, we descend down to the Pangboche village; it is known as world highest permanent settlement whole year around. It’s believed Pangboche monastery is one of the oldest in Khumbu region, which was built in 16th century. Now, you will leave EBC trekking main route and taking upper trail to the Phortse Village. You need to have lunch at Pangbuche dueto not any teahouses till Phortse. As this is less frequented trekking trail at Khumbu, you will visit just few trekkers. Comparatively, the trail is not wide like main trail and it goes through the cliff opposite of Tengboche. Mountain scenery make pleasant surround atmosphere with unique Sherpa culture and live hood. Stay overnight at teahouse.
Day 13 : Phortse to Khumjung (3,790m) - 4 to 5 hours After having breakfast, the trail descends to the Dudh Koshi Khola. There are few teahouses called Phortse Thagna, where you will meet other more trekking heading to Gokyo Valley or coming down. The trail goes through the river bank and forest gently ascending for while and finally steps up until the Mongma La. You have amazing view from here. After recharge your energy with some hot tea and other snacks, the trail descend to the Khumjung Village. Khumjung is tiny valley but many houses, just beneath the Khumbi Yul Lha known as God of Khumbu. Stay overnight at tea house.
Day 14 : Khumjung to Thame (3,820m) - 4 to 5 hours Today you are leaving Khumjung and Namche Bazaar and heading to the Thame valley. The Thame valley is off route for most trekking groups and you are likely to find the paths relatively quiet. In the village the houses are spread out and you will stay at tea house. Possibly, we are staying Everest Sumter Lodge ( rinning by Appa Sherpa, who was successfully concurred 21 Times on the top of the Mt. Everest). In the afternoon you can visit the small Gompa situated on a rocky headland above the village.
Day 15 : Thame to Monjo (2,835m) -6 to 7 hours After breakfast the treks leads us down the river then goes gradual down and kind of flat turn south down valley towards Namche Bazaar through rhododendron and juniper forest with isolated Sherpa village. The rest of day we enjoying with tremendous mountains scenery. We descend the long way before crossing the bridge and walking further to Monju for overnight stay.
Day 16 : Monjo to Lukla (2,800m) - 2 to 3 hours As this is end of trekking, today is not long day, after having breakfast we walk to Lukla. We will remind ourselves again to enjoy the lush green scenery around and passing through the incredible mountain scenery and local Sherpa village until Lukla. If you are on Thursday at Lukla, you can observe weekly market next to settlement. You'll have time to wander around the areas and guide will re-confirm your flight ticket and enjoy the last celebrate dinner with your crew and overnight at hotel.
Day 17 : Fly back Lukla to Kathmandu – 25 to 35 munities. Normally, the flight for Kathmandu is in the morning due to the wind in the afternoon; sometime the flight time can be delayed due to bad weather and other reason beyond our control. Anyway we will fly back to Kathmandu and your guide will transfer to hotel then you may have time to relax after long journey and take back your breath and rest at your hotel rest of day.
Day 18 : Your own destination or if you have extra time Join for another activities. In this pleasant day you may have full day at leisure either relax at hotel or explore the around Thamel. Today is day of ending your journey, so we would like offer you farewell dinner in Nepali typical Restaurant and hand over you Trip Certificate, Trekking Permit and TIMS Card for memory of Nepal trip. Today is free or last minute shopping for souvenirs or gift to your family, friends or relatives for you until departure flight/drive. Our assist will be transfer to the International Airport for your departure flight to your onwards destination, taking with you the memory of a life time.
