District Natural Disaster Relief Committee, Gorkha has said a new trekking trail from Arughat to Philim of Sirdibas VDC has been built as an alternative to the Manaslu Trekking Trail which has been damaged in different places after the earthquake.
Several landslides have been recorded in the Manaslu Trail which starts from Arughat and progresses through Soti, Laapu, Macchakhola and Tatopani before reaching Sirdibas. The alternative trail has been built as there are many active landslides in the Manaslu Trial, according to Deputy Superintendent of Police of Armed Police Force (APF) Kumar Shrestha. He said the new trail passes through Maanbu, Kaashigaun and Keraunja across the Budhi Gandaki River.
The Bhairavi Dal Battalion of Nepal Army and Armed Police Force's unit in Gorkha opened the new trail on Tuesday. Uddhav Timilsena, CDO of Gorkha, said the alternative trail was built as it was not possible to make the Manaslu trail operable due to frequent landslides. "Though the new trail is a bit longer, it will make it easier for people of more than 10 VDCs in northern Gorkha to come to the district headquarters," he added.
It will take around a week to reach Sirdibas from Arughat via new trail. Earlier, one could reach Sirdibas from Arughat in just three days.
DSP Shrestha said they have kept a team on stand-by as landslides have been reported in some places above Sirdibas VDC as well.
