The Tamur and its tributaries drain from the World's third highest peak - Mt. Kanchenjunga. Tamur is the sixth largest river in Nepal and seems to have a feeling of thrusting power, and of being embraced by its valley sides.

The Rafting journey to the put-in point on Tamur River involves 18 hour road journey followed by a 4 day trek to Dovan (put in point for Tamur River rafting/kayaking). This is a 135 km river action trip which takes 5 to 6 days to complete. The return journey from Chatara to Kathmandu is 16 hours (the take-out point of Tamur river trip). It is also possible to arrange a (1hour) flight to Kathmandu for additional cost. Tanur follows the beautiful valley with relatively un-spoilt villages and little agriculture farm. Both sides are heavy jungle, and there are good beaches for camping and plentiful signs of wildlife and vegetation. In addition, the local people are a fascinating collage of tribes and castes. Locals don’t see lot of westerners, and that’s why they welcome you very respectfully. This is most appropriate to those with a sense of adventure and seeking something a little different from the rivers of Nepal. It is also possible to arrange a special trip to meet your needs. This is ideally combined with trips to Chitwan National Park, or treks in the Kanchanjunga region. The huge grade 4 and 5- rapids Tamur River Rafting/Kayaking gives you a challenging and exhilarating feeling of a wilderness expedition!

Tamur and its tributaries have a steep gradient and are probably only of interest to expedition Kayakers. Downstream from Dobhan the gradient is more reasonable, but the river profile is unusual in that the river is steeped in the last 30km before its confluence with the Sun Koshi. The Kabelli River adds about a quarter to the volume of the river but from here down there are no substantial tributaries. We “Nepal Mother House Treks” are glad to organize this Rafting / Kayaking trip considering our client's safety and relative enjoyment. The itinerary can be customized according to your holiday schedule.

We help to arrange any of these excursions for you. Namaste and see you during your next trip to the Nepal Himalayas!

Day 01 : Fly to Biratnagar and drive to Basantapur.Fly to Biratnagar and then to Basantapur by land transport, which is the real starting point for your trekking trip

Day 02 : Trekking 4 days to Dovan via Gupha Pokhari. We start our four-day treks into the heart of eastern Nepal, and will stop for lunch and relax and enjoy the views and culture of local village life. Trek up over the Milke Danda via Gupha Pokhari to Dovan, from where we will start our rafting trip. This route has spectacular mountain views of Mount Everest, Makalu and Kanchenjunga. Porters will be carrying the main loads (including kayaks and rafts!) We make camp.

Day 06 : Rafting trip. The white water action begins from Dovan, and your expedition leader and your raft guide will give you a detailed safety briefing. Then for the rest of the day (apart from the lunch break of course) you are in a turquoise blue class 4 white water paradises Camp.

Day 07 : Rai Ghat to Bander Ghat rafting approx. 6 hours. Hold tight, the ride is not over yet, as past the point of Sap Su Khola is a rapid with the greatest drop Huge 'holes', 'eddies' and churning 'stopper waves' demands team work and hard paddling.

Day 08 : Bander Ghat to Bonjur Ghat rafting approx. 6 hours. We take to the rapids again, busy all morning earnestly thankful for the lunch break, emerging from the Mardheku gorge as the river spreads wide, less agitated after its confinement between steep cliffs and gorges.

Day 09 : Bonjur Ghat to Barahchhatra rafting approx. 6 hours. Today the whole stretch is a mixture of fun filled rapids and calm undulating floats. You are somewhat relived, yet sad that the trip is coming to an end, as all good things ultimately do.

Day 10 : Rafting trip. Starting and ending point for the day is not mention because this is one of the remote areas for the white water rafting. Relax and enjoy a mellow day on the river as you float through the day with the occasional "all forward call" to bring you back into action. You need to relax so you are ready for tomorrow!

Day 11 : Rafting trip and drive back to Kathmandu. Final day, raft take out in Chatara and transfer to Biratnagar for flight to Kathmandu or go for the safari trip either in Koshi Tappu, or in Chitwan National park, or drive back to Kathmandu. There could not be a better way to end an expedition like this other than on continuous class 4 for half a day. This is perfect action on a perfect river. We end the journey in Chatara.
