It is believed that all miseries and sorrows are relieved once you visit this Muktinath Temple (Mukti = Nirvana or status of Liberty or Free, Nath = God). The famous Muktinath Temple lies in the Mustang district situated about 18 kms northeast of Jomsom at 3800 meter altitude. The Buddist and Hindus shrine - pagoda shaped - Muktinath temple is dedicated to Lord Vishnu. Sets into the wall around it are 108 waterspouts from which pour holy water; even during the winter also people take bath here in order to wash out their sin (bad Karma).

People believed that one should visit this temple after completing a pilgrimage of four special religious sites in India. Muktinath temple is held sacred by Hindus as well as Buddhists. The Jwala Mai temple nearby contains a spring and an eternal flame fed by natural gas underground, believed to be a real God. There is a world-class accommodation facility in Jomsom from where one can enjoy remarkable natural beauty. There are two ways to get to Muktinath, from either taking a flight from Pokhara to Jomsom and hike for 7-8 hours from Jomsom, or trek all the way from Pokhara through Kali-Gandaki valley, which takes 7/8 days.  Now a day you can direct drive Pokhara to Muktinath by private jeep or regular bus.
