This mature river “Bheri” cuts a wide valley as it flows west join the Karnali just before it cuts to through the Chure Hills, disgorges onto the plain of the Tarai, and flows into Royal Bardia National Park. Two decades ago, the whole of this area was wild pristine jungle roamed by one of the nomadic hunting tribes ‘Route’. Still, on this trip you find a few of these tribespeople living by the river, and although some of the jungle has been cleared for farming, for the majority of the time you will see only cliffs, forest and wildlife.

For the Bheri river trip you have options either taking 1 ½ hour spectacular Himalayas scenery flight to Nepalgunj from Kathmandu, and then 1hour drive is required to reach Samjhighat, the put-in point or a 627 km long journey by road. The journey of driving itself is a unique experience winding up through the Siwalik Hills and passing through local villages. The return bus journey to Kathmandu is about 20 hours. Alternative returns would be via the Bardia national park which is located nearby, or bus to Nepalganj (2 hours) and fly to Kathmandu from there. Once the gorge is exited, the Seti River enters from the right, (this is the western Nepal Seti, not to be confused with the river close to Pokhara) and the river grade drops to class 2. Another day or two brings you to the Bheri River, entering from the left which has a good camping beach when you reach the take-out at lunch time following the day. The source of the Bheri River is the mountainous region of Dolpo in the north. The Bheri river trip offers one more incredible opportunity for whitewater Rafting/ Kayaking in Nepal. It flows through Nepal's far west and is yet to be fully explored, giving it an atmosphere of mystery, rich flora, and refreshing landscape which makes your trip comprehensively enjoyable. The rapids here are, however, mild in comparison to rapids one encounters is some of the more ferocious rivers in Nepal. Bheri is graded as easy, but offers an equally exciting experience as the waters lead through charming villages that have preserved century-old traditions and customs. This river is also known for good fishing spots.

At Ramnaghat, the two large tributaries, Thuli (big in Nepali) and Sani (small) converge and give rise to the larger Bheri River. The white sandy beaches are ideal for night stops, and on the Bheri River there are plenty of them. This trip usually ends in the Bardia National park where a jungle safari augments the great adventure on your trip. A combination of rafting, fishing and safari make this an unforgettable experience for all adventurers who choose the Bheri River Rafting. We “Nepal Mother House Treks” are glade to organize this Rafting / Kayaking trip considering our client's safety. The itinerary can be customized according to your wish, and holiday schedule.

Trip Note

If you wish to stay longer, we can offer plenty of suggestions: mountain biking in the Kathmandu valley, wildlife Safari, Bungee Jump, Hotel Booking, an Everest view flight, a trip out to Bhaktapur or Patan, the Kathmandu valley's other historic cities, or a night at the Fort Hotel in Nagarkot for a bit of luxury and some worth able sunset and sunrise mountain panoramas. We help to arrange any of these excursions for you. Namaste and see you during your next trip to the Nepal Himalayas!

Day 01 : Fly from Kathmandu to Nepalgunj: It’s take an hour’s flight with spectacular views of the Himalayas. On arrival drive to the put in point Samjhi ghat which will take approximately 3 to 4 hours. The drive itself is a unique experience, winding up through the Siwalik Hills and passing through local village. When you start, point your camp at the bank of the Bheri River. Dinner will be laid out for you around the camp.

Day 02 : Rafting Kumalgaun: After breakfast we break your camps and starts on our adventure rafting down the Bheri River. After 20 minutes, you are encountering our first’s big rapid, one of many to come. The Bheri itself is so remote that it remains a relatively unexplored river of west Nepal. The first part of the river is quite rough with twisted bends creating many exciting rapids. You stop for lunch beside the river and take time to explore the surrounding area, bird watch, or simply laze in the midday sun. You continue to encounter more white-water and come to the rest on one of the many sandy beaches.

Day 03 : Rafting to Jamu: The "Exciting” part gives way to a narrow gorge section with vertical cliffs of 200-300 feet on the either side interspersed with open valley where there are small villages. This area is generally scenic, but here too white-water in encountered. Once again we find one of the many pristine beaches for our camp side for the night.

Day 04 : Royal Bardia National Park The final Day on the river still holds a few surprises with several exciting rapids to be encountered. After an hour’s float we arrive at the confluence of the Bheri River and The Karnali River. Once again we enter another gorge section, this time opening onto the huge plain of the southern Terai region of Nepal. Once through this gorge we enter into the Royal Bardia National Park.
