Annapurna Base Camp trip with Poon Hill
start beautiful touristic city at Pokhara, after scenic drive from Kathmandu.  The trip begins through the rural villages; Nayapul, Birethanti, Hile, Thikhedhunda, Ulleri,  Banthanti and get in Ghorepani . Ghorepani is peace of paradise; from where you have fantastic panoramic view far west to east in the north side and people culture of here is unique, mostly the Pun Magar community lives around here. In truth, Poon Hill becomes from Pun Magar ethnic by mispronounce. Autumn is best time for the mountains scenery with crystal clear sky and spring offers colorful jungle by rhododendron blossom, lap of the snowcapped mountains. Even the sunrise and sunset view from Poon Hill (3,210m) is much better with panoramic Himalaya ranges appear in golden color. The view is an astonishing from east to west gradually; Lamjung Himal (6,983m), Annapurna II (7,937m), Annapurna IV (7,525m), Machhapuchhre (6,997m), Gandharva Chuli (6,248m), Hunchuli (6,441m), Annapurna South ( 7,219m), Annapurna I (8091m), Baraha Shikhar/Fang (7,647m), Nilgiri South (6,889m), Thapa/Dhampus  Peak (6,012m), Tukuche Paek (6,920m) and Mt. Dhaulagiri (8,167m).

As this trip goes through the Annapurna conservation area, most of the trail goes through the jungle with inhabited of Snow leopard, deer, wild goat and many more wildlife and diverse vegetation. The trail leads you different tea houses at Tadapani, Chhomrong, Sinuwa, Bambo, Dobhan, Himalaya, Deurali, Machhapuchre Base Camp (3,700m) and then final destination at Annapurna Base Camp ( 4,130m). It is unforgettable walking at wilderness Himalaya following bank of Modi Khola after Chhomrong, it goes making narrow gorge between gigantic two mountains Machhapuchre/Fishtail and Hunchuli. Day 01 : Arrival at Kathmandu & trekking preparation and permit paper work day. Upon arrival at international airport, our waiting support team will meet and greet you at the airport assist and transfer to the Hotel. And trekking preparation and permit organize day. Please, check your insurance details and have a copy of your travel medical insurance policy with you.

Day 02 : Drive Kathmandu to Pokhara (950m) – 6 to 7 hours by tourist bus Our trekking guide will come to the hotel in the morning at six o’clock to pick you with private transport. We’ll drive to Pokhara (200 km) which will take us about 6 to 7 hours on a very scenic route. Along the journey you will witness some stunning scenery of snow capped mountains, green hills, rivers in rafting, and villages. Pokhara is a beautiful valley with panoramic views of Annapurna, Machapuchare (shape of fish tail), Dhaulagiri, Lamjung Himal and Manaslu. The town of Pokhara is set on the banks of the Phewa Lake. It is smaller and much less hectic than Kathmandu providing the perfect starting point for our trek. Stay overnight at a hotel.

Day 03 : Drive to Nayapul (1010m) – 1: 45 hours and trek to Tikhedunga (1570meters) - 3 hours The first day trek starts at Nayapul after 1 and half hours driving by private vehicle from Pokhara. After 20 minutes we begin with a short walk along the banks of the Modi Khola. Then we reach Birethanti (1,015m) a large village that has many shops and teahouses. The main inhabitants of this village are Gurung, Magar and Thakali. Then, the trail continues following the north bank of the Bhurungdi Khola through villages and climbs steadily up the side of the valley to Hille (1,495m). After the short climb, we reach Tikhedhunga (1570m). Today’s walk offers a short and comparatively easy day, during the journey allowing us to get the full experience of trekking in Nepal. We stay overnight at a teahouse.

Day 04 : Trek Thikdhunga to Ghorepani (2840m) – 5 to 6 hours After breakfast, we begin our journey with a steep climb to large Magar village at Ulleri (2,070m). Then the trail continues to ascend more gently, through dense forests of oak and rhododendrons towards Banthanti (2250m). Occasionally, we can see Lonmgur (long tail black mouth Monkey) jumping in the trees. Then we trek towards Nangethanti (2,460m), after an hour walk we arrive at Ghorepani (2840m). Stay overnight at a lodge.

Day 05 : Hike up Ghorepani to Poon Hill (3210m) - 45 minutes, to Tadapani (2520m) – 4 to 5 hours We will hike about 45 minutes up to Poon Hill (3210m) early in the morning. This viewpoint provides an unobstructed and beautiful view of the sunrise over the high Himalayas with panoramic view giants Dhaulagiri (8,167m), Annapurna (8,091m), Machhapuchere, Nilgiri, Hiuchuli, South Annapurna etc. Additionally we can see a network of other peaks, slowly beginning to appear like magic before our eyes. We come back to Ghorepani for a hot breakfast and start walking to Tadapani. Here the trail climbs alongside ridges with pine and rhododendron forests to the Deurali and then descends through beautiful waterfalls, streams, and dense forest to Banthati. The streams have some clear pools alongside the trail which finally climbs up to the final destination Tadapani meaning ‘hot water.’ This is the water supply for a village far away.

Day 06 : Trek Tadapani to Chommrong (2140m) - 4 to 5 hours After breakfast the trail starts with a steep downhill through rhododendron forests and terrace fields to Kimrong Khola, offering good views of the upper Modi valley. Then, after crossing suspension bridge, ascend to a Gurung village. You can donate some money for the school kids and school welfare if you feel so inclined. From here the trail goes on, gradually ascending through the forests with a huge landslide ridge - an easy walk to Chommrong (2140 m). Here we have some view of mighty peak of Annapurna South, Hiuchuli, Gangapurna and Fishtail touch to the skyline. Stay overnight at a lodge.

Day 07 : Trek Chommrong to Dovan (2500m) - 5 to 6 hours The trail descends down a stone staircase to the Chhomrong Khola and we continue climbing to small village named Sinuwa (2340m). The trail leads us through the dense forest further on. Then the route travels very steeply down a rock bank through thick bamboo at the bottom of the gorge to Bamboo. And after lunch we go up along the Modi Khola forest to the Dovan. Stay overnight at a guesthouse.

Day 08 : Trek Dovan to Deurali (3200m) - 4 to 5 hours Today is short day trek to altitude and risk of snow avalanches in the area that we need to cross in the next morning. All the way we will climb through serene bamboo and rhododendron mixed forests nearby the Himalayan Hotel. This area, known as Hinko cave, was used for porter’s shelter in previous time. We then continue to Deurali. On the ridge above Hinko is the stretch of trail that is subject to avalanches. Stay overnight at a guesthouse.

Day 09 : Trek Deurali to Annapurna Base Camp (4130m) - 4 to 5 hours, via Machhapuchre Base Camp (3700m) After breakfast the trail lead us into the heart of the Sanctuary at the Annapurna Base Camp for our overnight stay. The trail goes uphill for few hours passing some roofless shepherds huts along the side of a moraine - this area is windy and often snowbound. The trail climbs on past the Machhapuchre Base Camp (3,700m), which isn’t really a base camp since climbing the mountain is not permitted. From here to Annapurna Base Camp, we’ll walk upon 2 hours of trail offering superb Himalaya scenery with amazing panoramic views of snow capped mountains surrounding you. The rest of day you have time to explore around and relax at the base camp as per your interest.

Day 10 : Trek back Annapurna Base Camp to Bamboo (2345m) -5 to 6 hours After breakfast we drop down to Bamboo, collecting boundless experiences. This morning we glimpse sunrise and the last evening sunset over Mt. Annapurna I, Annapurna Fangs. The unobstructed views of mountain scenery, which is very spectacular as its totally surrounded by mountains. We know come to know why this area is known as the Annapurna Sanctuary. After having spent a great time here, we retrace the journey back to Bamboo for the overnight stay. You can rest and relax in the evening with an unforgettable view of the many snow capped peaks and enjoy dinner.

Day 11 : Trek Bamboo to Jhinu Danda (hot spring) (1780m) - 4 to 5 hours The trail follows the same route until Chommrong. Once we have passed Khuldighar there is an experimental sheep farm, the trail continues through rhododendron and bamboo forests with majestic mountains scenery, especially Mt. Machhapuchhre (6,997m). From the ancient Gurung village Chomrong, the trail descends very steeply to the Jhinu hot springs, where you can bathe in natural hot springs only 20 minutes from our hotel. The rest of the day enjoy you and stay overnight.

Day 12 : Trek Jhinu Danda (Hot spring) to Siwa (1230m) /Syauli Bazaar (1220m) – 3 to 4 hours, drive to Pokhara (950m) 2 ½ to 3 hours In the morning you will visit Hot Spring /Tatopani beside the Modi Khola river bank, where you can bathe in natural hot springs, walking only 20 minutes from Jhinu Danda. Then back to teahouse for breakfast and the trail for today first descends to the Komrong Khola and gets New Bridge, where you fallow the river bank and through the forest to the Siwa (1,230m) through Kyum. We will drive Siwa/ Syauli Bazaar to Pokhara by Jeep or Taxi, it takes 3 to 4 hours. Here we see many others trekkers as well, who are coming from Ghandruk after visit Ghorepani Poon Hill. Stay at Pokhara for overnight.

Day 13 : Drive back to Kathmandu early in the morning by Tourist Bus - 6 to 7 hours We should be ready by 6:00 in morning in hotel lobby in order to have breakfast or seek advice from your trekking guide. We will drive back to Kathmandu through on the main road passing terraces, streams, rivers, local settlements, and high hills. It takes about 7 hours (conditional) to reach your hotel in Kathmandu. If you are interested to fly from Pokhara to Katmandu (bear in mind the extra cost of the plane tickets) please request Nepal Mother House Trekking to book your flight ticket in advance. It takes about 30 minutes flying time with spectacular views of the Himalayas, high hills, terraces, local settlements, and forests. This can indeed make it worth flying.

Day 14 : Your own destination. In this pleasant day you may have full day at leisure either relax at hotel or explore the around Thamel. Today is day of ending your journey, so we would like offer you farewell dinner in Nepali typical Restaurant and hand over you Trip Certificate, Trekking Permit and TIMS Card for memory of Nepal trip. Today is free or last minute shopping for souvenirs or gift to your family, friends or relatives for you until departure flight/drive. Our assist will be transfer to the International Airport for your departure flight to your onwards destination, taking with you the memory of a life time.

Few things are worth arranging while you are at home. Please note down these list details before your departure, this tips will help to make your trip enjoyable:

  • Read travel advice, inform yourself before travelling and get advice locally when you arrive.

  • Visit the doctor for your health report and take medicine and vaccine accordingly.
  • Remember, the local laws apply to you as a visitor and it is your responsibility to follow them.
  • Be sensitive to local customs, traditions and practices as your behavior may be seen as improper, hostile or even illegal.
  • Never step over anyone feet/legs, and pull in your own legs when somebody wants to pass.
  • Never touch anybody with your feet, also never point in a direction using your feet. The feet are considered the most impure parts of the body.
  • When entering a house, somebody's kitchen, temple or monastery take off your shoes.
  • As a woman you should always be dressed avoiding provocation, so keep shoulders and legs covered.
  • It is very polite to give and accept with your right hand, and even more so when you use your left hand for supporting the elbow of your right hand.
  • When in doubt how to behave in certain situations; keep a low profile, do not shout and keep your dignity.
  • It is better not to touch offerings or persons when they are on way to shrines.
  • Beef is prohibited among both the Hindus and Buddhists. No female animal is killed for food.
  • You may not be allowed entry to the inner sanctuaries of temples and Stupas.
  • You may be interested to take snaps of temples, Stupas and monuments. Generally temples, Stupas and monuments are permitted to be photographed, but it is better to have permission before using your cameras.
